Smart Substation VPAC

Smart Substation subject matter expert

What are the well-known clues if a person is a subject matter expert in software defined smart substation? A subject matter expert in software defined smart substation demonstrates the ability to efficiently retrieve relevant knowledge, either mentally or through external AI search engine, to do job task such as writing, computing, documenting, public speaking, specifying, imagining, prototyping, modeling, creating, designing, building, automating, operating, maintaining, repairing, and improving software defined smart substation.]

23. Today, when grid planners assess whether they can connect new projects to the grid, they need to consult dozens of different maps, databases, models, and evaluation tools—a lengthy process that creates bottlenecks and inefficiencies. For example, one piece of software models and tracks where equipment is, another manages grid connections, a different one shows the energy rating, another tracks the thermal capacity of each asset, and still another shows the economic impact of connecting new sources. Each software program generates a file, which creates its own unique model of the grid, and every time a change is made in one model, it must be applied to all the other models. Since these models are siloed, it is extremely difficult to manage all these changes and keep the data consistent and updated between them.

20. The system presents eleven buses and two areas, connected by a weak tie between bus B1 and bus B2. Two loads are applied to the system at buses B1 and B2. In addition, two shunt capacitors are also connected to bus B1 and bus B2 as shown in the topology above. Simulation In Model Configuration Parameters, select 'Fixed-step' as simulation type and 'Discrete' as solver. PMU sample time is Ts_PMU = 1/60/64 = 20.42 us. However, the network model sample time Ts = 50 us. Open the scopes and start the simulation. Zoom on voltage and current phasors right after the fault occurs and notice the transient. A three-phase fault occurs at 2 seconds of simulation. After 0.10 seconds, the three-phase fault is cleared and a new steady-state is presented until the end of the simulation at 25 seconds, as shown in the plot below. Source: MathWorks Help Center

19. The PMU (PLL-Based, Positive-Sequence) block implements a phasor measurement unit (PMU) using a phase-locked loop (PLL), which computes the positive-sequence component of the input abc signal over a running window of one cycle of fundamental frequency given by input abc. The signal can be a set of three balanced or unbalanced signals which may contain harmonics. The PMU (PLL-Based, Positive-Sequence) block is inspired by the IEEE Std C37.118.1-2011. 15. Why a software-defined approach is the future for embedded and IoT. Software defined allows over-the-air (OTA) update capabilities for remote upgrades and patching through cellular and mobile connections – improving user experience and performance without having to recall vehicles for hardware upgrades.

2. The network in my home, the network in a factory, the network in a cloud, is all becoming more software-defined under software control. And as that happens, it gets you to ask a number of questions. First of all, if the network is software controlled, can I modify it and change it to do things that I want to do that I haven't been able to do in the past? In the past, all the functions of networks were really locked down by and determined by standards and equipment manufacturers who had very little incentive to change.
