GEOMETRY is a common core content. Common core content means it touches K-12 students.
The State expected 3rd grade students to have early exposure to geometry. Geometry teaches student how to reason and justify their answer by describing and comparing attributes of shapes such as cylinder, triangular prism, cone, and rectangular prism. For example the question which shape has one base and one vertex teaches student that they can compare, classify, and define a geometrical shape by using its base and vertex.
